# Overview

> One REST API to search, download, and query every source in Dataville's catalog.

The Dataville API gives you one interface to every source in the catalog. You search a source, download it, or query it with SQL, all through plain HTTP `GET` and `POST` requests with JSON responses and standard status codes. Anything with an HTTP client can call it, and AI tools reach the same sources through the [MCP server](/ai-tools).

## Base URL

All requests go to `https://api.dataville.com`. Data lookups sit at the root, so a source name and keywords form the whole path. Every other endpoint in this reference is under `/api/v1/`.

The reference is organized into these groups.
